Academic Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor

Department: Art

Campus Location: Main Campus

Job Summary

The Department of Art at Colorado College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Art (Painting and Drawing) beginning Fall 2026.

We invite applicants with experience teaching observational drawing and all aspects of painting. This is a one-year, non-tenure-track position for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and curricular needs. The successful candidate will teach six courses, including 4 sections of Drawing, and 1 section of Painting and 1 section of Advanced Painting. (Please note while there is opportunity to incorporate some technology into foundations courses, Colorado College does not have facilities or staff to support digital design, so successful applications will demonstrate the ability to teach foundations concepts in material based, hands-on making classes.) The Art Department seeks faculty whose teaching interests and instructional approaches reflect an understanding and engagement with the critical dialogue of contemporary practices in painting. There will be opportunities to collaborate in activities at the Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, and in arts-related initiatives and other programs across the Colorado College community.

MFA or equivalent degree and prior teaching experience required. This year-long position is benefits eligible and includes a competitive salary depending upon experience and qualifications.

Founded in 1874, Colorado College is a nationally recognized, private residential liberal arts college with about 2,500 students. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is its Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long with class every day for approximately 3 hours per day for eighteen days and is expected to be taught in person. For more information, consult the following link . A successful candidate must exhibit potential for excellence in dynamic teaching at a small liberal arts college.

Colorado College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. Read more about our commitment to Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in our "The Strategy for a More Just CC," a living document that presents a framework to address ten priority areas where antiracism strategies impact all areas of the college, policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see ).
