POSITION TITLE: Temporary Organizer Internal – Political 
POSITION LENGTH: 6 months with the potential to extend to 9 months
DATE: 6/08/2026
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Field Operations and Director of Public Affairs

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under MNA’s Director of Field Operations and Director of Public Affairs, this position will work in a Field team to educate and mobilize members to become active within their Union. The Temporary Organizer Internal – Political will work with the team to plan, implement, and evaluate MNA’s field, political, legislative, and community initiatives to advance nurses’ goals at the local, state, and federal levels. 

The Internal Organizer will do this by educating and working with current MNA staff and members to develop and implement organizing campaigns that focus on comprehensive strategy and processes to maintain and increase member engagement and participation.

The Internal Organizer will protect and defend the Union while advancing the mission and goals of MNA. They will also be expected to apply the organizing model to educate, engage, and mobilize MNA members to action by building unity and power.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work within the Union’s policies and programs, consistent with the operational needs as directed by the management team.
• Support Internal Organizing activities for existing MNA bargaining units by regularly holding one-on-one meetings, participating in member meetings and mobilizing, and taking part in facility rounding within assigned facilities and teams.
• Utilize organizing conversations to empower and mobilize workers to build power to positively impact MNA’s field, legislative, and electoral campaigns. 
• Develop work site organizing committees and member action teams.
• Collaborate with the assigned field team and Governmental Affairs team to identify and implement organizing tactics that help to achieve field and political goals.
• Build, train, and maintain a network of member activists within your assigned facilities and teams.
• Identify issues and assist in the development of issue-related mobilization campaigns.
• Maintain data within ActionBuilder, EveryAction, and the VAN of workers participating in the organizing/mobilizing field, legislative, and electoral campaigns.
• Work with the communications specialists to develop communication plans related to the internal organizing drives, including all types of printed and electronic materials.
• Work with the team to implement member-to-member and member-to-public independent expenditure electoral programs with tactics including but not limited to electronic communication, text and phone banking, worksite campaigns, door knocking, and virtual and in-person meetings. 
• Provide briefings and education for staff and members around labor law, field, legislative, electoral, and issue-based work;

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend and/or participate in Union activities when directed, including, but not limited to, any of the following:
  • Educational programs for Union stewards and other members
  • Internal work teams
  • Staff meetings
  • Commissions, Committees, Convention, or Board of Directors meetings
  • Internal and Political organizing activities
• Establish and maintain collegial relationships with Union staff through, but not limited to, the following:
  • Sharing information on organizing activities with staff and appropriate structural units
  • Seeking input from other staff to problem-solve and/or gain knowledge
  • Contributing knowledge in areas of expertise
• Participate in event planning as it relates to field or political organizing
• Interact and coordinate activities with other people or agencies, such as the AFL/CIO, NNU, and Labor/Regional Coalitions, as directed
• Keep the management team informed of important information that could impact the ability to effectively manage any aspects of the campaign
• Demonstrate the ability to use technology, databases, and social media
• Arrange work schedule to meet job responsibilities, including overnight travel, and working nights and weekends when necessary

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

• Experience using the organizing conversation
• 1-2 years’ experience in union, political, or community organizing
• Excellent and effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Understanding of electoral and legislative processes
• Experience with databases such as Action Builder, EveryAction, and Voter Action Network (VAN)
• A reliable vehicle
• The ability for occasional overnight travel, and working nights and weekends when necessary

Preferred:

• RN
• Ability to identify and assess members on an organizing scale
• Previous experience within both unions and healthcare
• Motivated self-starter who can learn without heavy supervision
• Ability to think strategically and meet many/changing deadlines
• Experience in project management, organizing, and cross-departmental collaboration 
• Ability to listen actively, frame issues, and lead workers through fights; patient in pressure situations
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate projects and teams
• Proven success in high-paced and time-sensitive projects
• Other combinations of education and experience that could provide the necessary knowledge and skills will be evaluated individually.

SALARY RANGE 
Per MNASO Local 1, Unit 2 Contract Agreement. A salary range of $87,194 – $88,941, dependent on experience, with 100% employer-paid single and low-cost family health insurance coverage. This position is based in the MNA office and does not offer a hybrid or virtual option.
