Software Engineer Python & GCP

About the role
We're seeking a talented Senior Python Engineer to join our team. You'll be responsible for designing and developing high-throughput applications using Python, with high-quality, production-ready code to deliver functionality to our customers. You'll be accountable for ensuring decisions are made within a sound risk framework and aligned to Group standards, while managing the full software development lifecycle within an agile environment.

What you'll do

• Design and develop applications in Python with automated tests to ensure they meet business functionality.
• Build and maintain enterprise-grade REST APIs using modern Python frameworks.
• Implement monitoring for applications and analyse health and performance to improve reliability.
• Be part of a cross-functional product engineering team and adhere to engineering standards throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Pair with other engineers to review code and ensure agreed quality standards are followed.
• Ensure code is kept up to date and version-controlled within a repository.
• Collaborate with architects and other senior engineers to produce application/design documentation.
• Problem-solve and debug production issues while minimising customer impact.
• Mentor/coach engineers to deliver high-quality applications designed for security, testing, maintainability and observability.

What you'll need

• Hands-on experience building enterprise REST APIs in Python using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Strong experience with Python 3.x and good understanding of clean coding, design patterns and engineering best practices.
• Hands-on experience building microservices.
• Hands-on experience with GCP.
• Experience with TDD practices, automated unit/integration testing and DevOps practices like CI/CD.
• Experience designing and building high-volume distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, resilient and highly observable.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Optional: Hands-on experience with Kafka or other event-driven messaging platforms.
