Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Print Production Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in print production, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality. As a Print Production Operator, you will manage the entire print production process, from preparing files for print to operating and maintaining printing equipment. You will work closely with other team members to ensure that all print jobs are completed on time and to the highest standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Operates and maintains print production equipment and bindery machines.

  • Operates complex digital printing equipment and executes print orders according to specifications. Performs intermediate- to advanced-level printing on paper using multiple devices, plus basic specialty printing production of items beyond standard printing equipment, as well as complex, specialized bindery finishing equipment.

  • Sets up, monitors, operates, and maintains high-speed digital printers, wide format printers (both aqueous and latex), envelope laser printers, UV printer, dye-sublimation printer, Direct to Film (DTF) printer, laser cutters, die cutters, network printers, and other similar equipment to print a variety of materials, including booklets, brochures, cards, forms, and posters.

  • Keeps records and reports work completed or in process via the online computer order system; archives print orders for future use.

  • Performs PDF file formatting and pre-flighting to create print-ready files including preparing envelopes with data-merged addresses.

  • Submits restocking orders to ensure availability of paper and supplies; stocks paper products, including pallets, and printing supplies as needed.

  • Inspects completed jobs for the purpose of ensuring work meets requested specifications, quality standards, and quantity requirements.

  • Finishes printed jobs using bindery equipment including cutters, folders, collators, drills, laminators, slitter / cutter / creasers, staplers and booklet assembly equipment, inserters for mailing, and coil inserters to meet print orders in the most cost-effective and viable manner.

  • Participates in wall graphic installation.

  • Packs and prepare projects for shipping.

  • Coordinates with other team members to optimize equipment use, workflow, and available time.

  • Performs regular maintenance and troubleshooting of printing equipment.

  • Performs preventative, advanced daily, weekly, and monthly equipment maintenance and address any issues that arise during the printing process.

  • Performs administrative and clerical duties as needed.

  • Prepares proofs for customer feedback and approval; reviews proofs and implements changes as needed.

  • Provides customer service, continuous template training; paper training; and support to internal customers regarding layout and printing of forms, training, and promotional materials.

  • Utilizes pre-press production software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to convert electronic files to printable formats and compose or modifies proofs and prepares digital files for printing.

  • Operates computer software to convert files, prepare proofs, merge addresses, and perform typesetting as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the operation and basic maintenance requirements for print-related equipment.

  • Ability to work effectively under time pressure and meet critical deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

  • Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work using principles of teamwork and good customer service.

  • Strong attention to detail, including high levels of accuracy.

  • Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to perform the job duties.

  • Ability to understand machine warnings and lock‑out/tag‑out instructions.

  • Ability to follow step‑by‑step job specifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of printing experience; specialty printing and/or bindery experience preferred.

  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate activity level including stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, manipulating, grasping, climbing, and lifting. The job requires regular lifting of materials greater than 50 pounds and frequent lifting of materials weighing less than 50 pounds. Typically, subject to indoor print shop and occasionally outside environmental conditions, noise, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat or chemicals, exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation; and oils and other cutting fluids.
